A new era for dynamic heritage:
KINETIKA project successfully funded and launched

The KINETIKA consortium is proud to announce the project’s selection for funding under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Innovation Actions (Grant Agreement No. 101233379). The interdisciplinary research project KINETIKA was evaluated together with 23 other proposals under the HORIZON-CL2-2024-HERITAGE-ECCCH-01-01 topic: “A European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage – Innovative tools for digitisation and analysis of dynamic processes, objects and complex combined data”. The KINETIKA project distinguished itself in a highly competitive process by being one of only two proposals funded under its specific topic targeting dynamic heritage processes and ranks among the 10 projects selected from a massive pool of 145 submissions for the broader “A European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage – 2024 (HORIZON-CL2-2024-HERITAGE-ECCCH-01)” call.

The KINETIKA project “Advancing the Digitization and Analysis of Dynamic Cultural Heritage Objects” embraces Industry 4.0 concepts to create a groundbreaking 4D digital twin framework for cultural heritage (CH) objects with mechanical parts, focusing on movable structures of industrial and cultural heritage masonry. By integrating advanced imaging like photogrammetry, laser scanning, and muography, KINETIKA captures both the physical form and internal complexity of these objects, reflecting their dynamic nature. Through IoT-based sensor networks, the project continuously monitors structural integrity, environmental conditions, and mechanical performance, feeding data into AI-driven analytics for anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and conservation strategies.

KINETIKA’s platform aligns seamlessly with the ECCCH framework to ensure data interoperability, enabling third-party CH service providers to offer tailored solutions. The project will validate its innovations through representative case studies, including clock towers, looms, and drawbridges, by creating 3D models and simulations to create immersive experiences for researchers, educators, and the public, demonstrating how adaptable the platform is and guiding further applications across a wide range of cultural artefacts.

Officially launched on 1 January 2026 for a 36-month duration and coordinated by the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), the KINETIKA project brings together a consortium of eighteen partners from eleven European countries: six academic partners (USAL, UOULU, UCLouvain, TUC, FTN, and UBFME), seven SMEs (MUONS, IED ES, ACCELI, Jotne, ENVITERRA, PARTICLE, and UBITECH LIMITED), two research institutes (WAAG and JOAFG), two public bodies (NAXOS and CML), and one industrial partner (CARRIS). Together, they balance academic excellence, technological innovation, and practical heritage management, combining deep expertise in 3D digitisation, AI, mechanics, monitoring, and cultural preservation.
